Double Shutter – Shut the Super Box is a game that combines tactical choices and a bit of luck. The directions are simple – roll the dice inside the tin and add up the dots to shut the tiles of your choice. The tile total must match the dot total in any combination you want. For additional options, you can flip a tile from the second row if the tile in front of it has already been shut. The player who shuts the Super Box or has the least amount of points remaining (when he or she can close no more tiles) wins the game.

Players develop strategies, figure probabilities and use arithmetic to attempt to shut the Super Box. The game is recommended for one to six players and each game lasts about ten to 20 minutes. Included with the game is the tin box with two rows of nine tiles, two dice and the rules.


Double Shutter – Shut the Super Box is a very intuitive, very easy game to play. Our review team popped it open, took a quick look through the directions and got moving. And as our players started to develop strategies of their own – things really got interesting. Competitive, fun play, that’s easy to establish – that has all the makings of 5 stars in our Ease of Use category!

Not a single durability problem to worry about here. The “box” itself is well made, and the tiles are made of durable plastic. Even if you lose one of the die, you can easily replace with any other die you have. Our team made special note of the felt padding on the playing surface which helps keep the game in tip-top shape and mute the sound – even could be great for travel!

Double Shutter has a nice, professional appearance – the red and yellow colors all come together for a pleasant overall look. This game isn’t exactly designed for the little ones – so skipping on some of the super-bright colors in exchange for a toned down look is a good choice.

Game play is excellent. Shut the Box has been a classic for centuries – and Double Shutter is a fantastic take on the game. Our review team found it excellent for competitive play against a friend or fantastic for a game of “Solitaire” Shut the Box on your own! Also, the box and die can be used when your on the road (or a plane!).

Well priced. Seems reasonable. Those aren’t exactly the comments we often get from our review team with regard to pricing. But, after playing and enjoying Double Shutter, the entire team felt that it was definitely a good buy.

Dice games alone are not original. Nor is the game Shut the Box. But Blue Orange Games gave this classic a new twist by adding a level – creating the Double Shutter. It’s a cool take on a great classic that helped our review team award a few extra points in the originality category.

Overall the review team loved playing Double Shutter. It is just one of those easy-to-learn, super addictive games. Play it once and you’ll be hooked! Double Shutter is well made, and fun to play alone or with an opponent. This was one game that our entire review team wanted to play and play again! Great fun!
