4th Corner is a simple
tile-laying game where the object is to build a maze outward, and then
be the first player to make it to the exit when it appears. Sounds
simple, huh? Wait until you play!!!
INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY RATINGS
EASE OF USE
4th Corner was one of those games
that required our review team to read the directions a
few times, and then feel their way through game play the
first few times through. They were super excited
at the description of the game as they were a true
"strategy-loving" group, but they had to slow it down
and really read and re-read the instructions (even with
that, some were still a little confused).
4th Corner does come in a small box
that is perfect for home use or travel, and without a
big game board you can play virtually anywhere - a
couple of plusses in the Ease of Use category.
Also, if you visit
www.stategic-space.com and watch the Animated Sample
Game you'll gain a quicker understanding of how the game
is played.
DURABILITY
There is no game board, only tiles
that are played, placed and replaced. Between
those tiles and the solid player pieces the review team
found absolutely no concern with durability.
VISUAL APPEAL
4th Corner isn't the most colorful
or most exciting looking game to ever hit the market,
but keep in mind, it's main intention is not to impress
visually, but to challenge strategically. And as
far as pure strategy games go, the review team felt like
4th Corner fit right in.
FUNCTIONALITY
4th Corner is a true strategy game.
With that in mind, it took our review team a bit longer
to fully understand the directions and then to develop
strategies of their own. Once they did, the game
play got competitive - and by nature - no two games will
ever play the same way. That is the beauty of 4th
Corner, and that is where the functionality truly kicks
in.
COST EFFICIENCY
On a blind guess most of our review
team pegged 4th Corner right at $15.00. With an
actual retail price of $14.95, 4th Corner is well priced
and affordable for everyone to play.
ORIGINALITY
No one on our review team had ever
played a strategy game quite like 4th Corner. The
team was pleased with the ability to create your own
board during play, then change it throughout.
Definitely an original.
OVERALL RATING
Our team definitely got
competitive with 4th Corner once they understood all
of the rules and how the game is to be played.
Simple design and a solid concept try to keep the
play relying on strategy, but this can be slowed a
bit as it make take some players a little longer to
understand the mechanics. Overall the group
liked 4th Corner and felt it scored well as a game
of strategy.
