HEXBUG Spider Kids Electronics Collectible Product Review

The HEXBUG Spider is a robotic creature that is an electro-mechanical marvel to watch and operate. Each HEXBUG Spider features 360-degree steering, an LED forward eye, and two-channel, user-selectable infrared remote control. The two-channel remote enables the user to operate multiple bugs independently or at the same time . The largest member of the HEXBUG family, the complexity of its internal mechanisms and six-legged crawling motion is simply fascinating to operate and watch.

So…we have a HEXBUG that we get to control for once. No, this HEXBUG doesn’t just wander around on its own, wandering this way and that, this time you are in control. And yes…it is absolutely easy to use. With the help of the infrared remote control you get to spin the spider’s head, then whichever direction the eye ends up facing is the direction this little guy goes. Plus with the selectable channel feature, you can have multiple spiders operating in the same room at the same time. Easy!

Designed for kids ages 8 and up, with proper care and handling we don’t see any cause for concern in the durability department.

Oh yeah…the Spider looks as cool as the rest of the HEXBUGS that are our there. First off, the Spider is the largest HEXBUG around, and as you direct the movement it just looks impressive. Next up, the bright colors combine with the cool movement to really create an eye-catching toy. Top notch visual appeal!

This is one HEXBUG that in and of itself packs in the functionality. Unlike other HEXBUGS you get to control the action. The remote works well and makes this one toy that is easy to control. We did find that we had to stay within a few feet of the spider to keep it working and moving properly, but that isn’t a big deal. Excellent functionality.

And then we hit Cost Efficiency…and this HEXBUG like others of its predecessors takes a hit. The price is high – really high. our team expected the cost to be right around $15. With an actual retail price of just under $30, the manufacturers set a price that was twice as much as we expected! This is a remote control toy, and yes, some remote control toys cost $30 – we just don’t think this one should be so much!

We’ve seen lots of HEXBUGS and we’ve seen lots of remote control toys – but this is the first time they’ve been combined! The result is an all-original, brand new concept for a cool toy that we love. A nice change of pace to the HEXBUG line and definitely an original!

Alright, HEXBUG has done it again…even with a price that we think is pretty far out of line, they seemed to earn a five star rating! Translation – if you don’t mind spending the extra dollars, your kids are going to love this toy! They control the action, the Spider looks cool, and the toy is going to last! HEXBUGS are just cool and they are just fun…and the Spider is no exception! Five stars it is!
