Whoever said that learning about U.S. geography had to be boring must not have read The Scrambled States of America. We fell head-over-heels for Laurie Keller’s hilarious story and knew that it had the making for a great game. As with her book, we hope our game provides a fun way to enrich basic knowledge of U.S. geography. Players learn the names, capitals, nicknames, shapes and positions of the states through a myriad of visual teasers, language riddles and geography challenges. After playing, you’ll see that there’s more to the 50 States than meets the eye!
The Scrambled States of America is designed for kids ages 8 and up – and we found that as long as kid were old enough to read, they were old enough to play! The gameplay itself is rather intuitive, with the goal being to answer the most questions, identify the most states and collect the most state cards! Simple in design and fun in execution!
In most cases when a board game or card game is designed for kids ages 8 and up, we are pretty much locked in to awarding 5 stars for durability. However, with The Scrambled States of America, there are a few folding paper maps included that are pivotal to the game play. We found that the more these maps get used, the quicker they are to show wear, which will eventually lead to rips, etc. So – if your kids like the game (and we’re betting they will) they’ll play it more – and you just may find yourself in the map reinforcing business after a few months of fun!
The Scrambled States of America is super colorful and super cute to look at. Kids will love the fun face and drawings from the first time they lay their eyes on the game. But wait – it gets better. As soon as your kids see a group of children playing Scrambled States (or play it themselves) they’ll fall in love even further. Playing is loud and fun – and your kids are sure to see that right away!
So, can a game about the states have staying power? You bet it can! Look, as we said before, the game is designed for kids ages 8 and up, but that doesn’t mean younger kids can’t play with a little help from Mom and Dad. As your kids play the game (over and over and over again) they are going to learn the states, where they are located, where they are located with proximity to each other, and they are even going to learn the capitals! There is a lot of fun waiting in this box, and a lot of things to learn too!
With a suggested retail price of $15.99 our team is more than pleased to award 5 stars in the Cost Efficiency Category. Too often we see games (including card based games) that choose to price themselves over $20. It doesn’t make sense. $20 and below is fair for games – and a card based game such as Scrambled States is more than fair for $15.99.
Yes, Scrambled States is based on the book of the same name – but that in no way means this game isn’t an all original! The game has a super fun, super unique way of teaching your kids states, location, capitals and more. Without knowing it, your kids are learning – and honestly, what could be better than that!?
Play Scrambled State with your family and you’ll see for yourself – this is without question a five star game! Younger kids have so much to learn – older kids can show off what they know – and parents (ahem) can brush up on some state locations and capitals all the same! The game is easy to play, mostly durable, and fun for everyone. And yes – it is priced right too! We love it – and we’re sure your kids and family will as well!
