Family Finger Race is a family game for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. By exploring multi-touch capabilities of IOS devices, the game creates a family-friendly finger race experience that can be played by one or two players at the same time. Featuring Game Center Support, a World Ranking is available with worldwide results helping answer the question – “Who is the fastest family on the planet?”
If you have an iPad or an iPhone, we don’t need to explain to you how easy it is to download or purchase an app…but for those of you who are living under a rock, simply go to the App Store, find Family Finger Race, hit “Buy” or “Download” and you are good to go.
Now the gameplay itself is meant to be easy, simply swipe your finger on the spot where you make the animals run, but it isn’t as simple or fast as it sounds. To make your animal move you really need to get swiping – and fast. We would have preferred an easier swipe and a longer course than a super short course and a harder swipe. It’s not as easy as we would have liked to make these little animals run!
No durability questions with an app. If your little one “accidentally” deletes it, simply head back to the App store and reinstall – no fuss no muss – no missing pieces and no permanent deletes.
We will say this, the look and feel of the Family Finger Race is super-cute. The 3 courses to choose from are adorable, and the 12 animals that you can choose from are adorable.
And this is where the big fall off is. Sad to say it, but I think Apple and the Apps it allows on its devices is starting to spoil us. We want our Apps robust. We want a lot going on. And in so many cases, these Apps deliver. Unfortunately, Family Finger Race is a bit simplistic for our tastes. Yes, there are a few boards to choose from, and yes there are 12 animals – but all in all – the race never changes. There are no higher levels, no major goals or rewards to work towards. To stay competitive, Family Finger Race could use a lot more functionality.
So…yeah, we wanted more functionality out of our App here…but that isn’t to say that it was overpriced, even for the simplicity. At $0.99 it is hard to argue anything but the price is fair – so we won’t say another word.
With an influx of Apps and games direct at kids (and their parent’s dollars) it isn’t a stretch at all to say that new games, learning tools and ideas are coming forward every day. And Family Finger Race is no exception. It has a pretty unique gameplay, even if the idea of a “race” game isn’t entirely original.
We’re not here to say we don’t like Family Finger Race – because we do. The visuals are adorable and the idea is a good one – we just want more. We want more levels. More interactivity. More challenges. We’ve come to expect so much from our Apps that this one leaves us feeling a little short. Family Finger Race is a fun one for the kids, but parents locked into gameplay with them are going to want more too. And after a few rounds your kids will follow-suit.
