Welcome to the enchanted world of the Gubs! Brothers Cole and Alex Medeiros crafted this unique card game that captures the essence of Gamewright’s motto: “Games for the Infinitely Imaginative”. From the richly detailed illustrations, to the whimsical array of cards, to the simple but compelling game play, Cole and Alex came up with a game that has all the trappings of a Gamewright classic.
GUBS is a game designed for kids ages 10 years old and up – and that fact alone is probably what kept it on the high side of our Ease of Use category. It’s not that GUBS gameplay is exactly difficult, but it does take a certain level of attention, intelligence and game playing experience to get the hang of. With most of the groups that we played with, we just needed one practice round (maybe two) to get the hang of it. Keep the Official Rules page handy when you begin – referring to the Card Guide is a valuable tool.
Card games that are designed for kids age 10 years and older pose no durability issues. Children of this age should have no problem keeping track of all of the cards during clean-up, and as long as all of the cards are properly stored this game should last a lifetime.
GUBS has a super creative, super cool design that is sure to capture the attention of the kids in this age range. The all original artwork, matched with the uniquely designed gameplay will captivate and hold your kids’ attention.
GUBS is a card game that is going to play different every time you shuffle, and it can be played with anywhere from 2 to 6 kids. We definitely liked that the gameplay itself doesn’t take terribly long – right around 20 minutes per game. Put all of that together and you’ve got a game that isn’t just fun, but functional too.
Always hotly discussed – and GUBS didn’t disappoint. Sometimes I think our team is just cheap (and sometimes I know it!). With a suggested retail price of $11.99 GUBS falls in-between expensive and inexpensive. It isn’t a $5 add-on at the register, but it also isn’t expensive or large enough to hit the $20 gift giving mark. For card games our team likes to keep it around $5-$7 – and GUBS goes beyond that range.
We could really use at least 6 stars for originality! All new characters, all new artwork, all new designs, and all new gameplay! It doesn’t get any more original than that!
GUBS is a unique, innovative, captivating card game that older kids and teens just love to play. The game itself has a look and feel quite unlike any other card game your kids will have played – and they’ll love challenging each other to round after round of play. After a quick practice round or two kids will have the concept down, and by keeping the rules and Card Guide handy the game will move along even better. No durability issues, excellent functionality and originality. Sure we would have liked the price to be a bit lower, but that certainly isn’t an unusual suggestion from us! GUBS is an excellent addition to the game cabinet of kids 10 and up!
